Work Shifts

All GWCSA members are required to help with produce distribution by signing up for one or more work shifts.

Saturday Work Shifts

There are three options for Saturday work shifts.

Saturday Distribution Shifts

  • Where: GWCSA Stand, next to the dog run in McCarren Park
  • When: 8:30am – 12:15pm
  • What: Help the distribution coordinator by checking members off lists or manning the produce bins. At the end of distribution, help load left over produce into the farms truck.
  • How many times? One

Saturday Farmstand Shifts

  • Where: Garden of Eve Stand at McCarren Park Farmers Market
  • When: 7:30am – 9:30am, or 9:30 – 11:30am, or 11:30am – 1:30pm
  • What: The main mission of the GWCSA is to support local family farms. We fulfill that mission in part by lending a helping hand at the Garden of Eve stand in the McCarren Park Farmers Market. Work shift members stock vegetables and help customers. Our assistance allows the stand to function with fewer employees, keeping costs low for our farmer. Because shifts at the market tend to be more intense than distribution, we have split market shifts into 2 hour allotments.
  • How many times? One

Saturday Soup Kitchen Driver (must have own car)

  • Where: GWCSA Stand, next to the dog run in McCarren Park
  • When: 12:00pm
  • What: Your vehicle will be loaded with bags of leftover produce for donation. You will drive this produce to the soup kitchen on Milton Street in Greenpoint where it will be unloaded.
  • How many times? Three (on different Saturdays)

Wednesday Work Shifts

There are three options for Wednesday work shifts.

Wednesday Distribution Shifts

  • Where: Lutheran Church of the Messiah (129 Russell Street, Greenpoint)
  • When: 5:30 pm – 7:15 pm, or 6:45 pm – 8:20 pm
  • What: Get ready for distribution by organizing the produce. Once all the vegetables, fruits, eggs and flowers have been and set out, work shift members will then help the distribution coordinator by checking members off lists or manning the produce bins. Another wave of work shift members arrive at 6:45 pm and finish up distribution by cleaning up and removing the empty crates to the side yard.
  • How many times? Two
You can work both shifts in one night, or you can work one shift on two different nights. If you’re sharing your CSA share with someone, you can both come in and work the same shift at the same time.

Wednesday Compost Shifts

  • Where: Lutheran Church of the Messiah (129 Russell Street, Greenpoint)
  • When: 5:30 pm – 7:15 pm, or 6:45 pm – 8:20 pm
  • What: Please make sure that you are prepared to get dirty and dress appropriately!
  • How many times? Two
Since we only need one compost worker each week, you cannot fulfill your entire workshift obligation in one night like with the distribution workshifts. The two shifts must be on different nights.

Wednesday Soup Kitchen Driver (must have own car)

  • Where: Lutheran Church of the Messiah (129 Russell Street, Greenpoint)
  • When: 8pm
  • What: Your vehicle will be loaded with bags of leftover produce for donation. You will drive this produce to the soup kitchen on Milton Street in Greenpoint where it will be unloaded.
  • How many times? Three (on different Wednesdays)
